Enrique A. Lopez-Poveda, Ph.D. is Associate Professor of Otorhinolaryngology at the University of Salamanca, Director of the Auditory Computation and Psychoacoustics Laboratory of the Neuroscience Institute of Castilla y León, and theDirector of the Audiology Diploma of the University of Salamanca. He received a B.Sc. in physics from the University of Salamanca in 1993 and a Ph.D. in hearing sciences from Loughborough University in 1996. He was Associate Professor ofMedical Physics at the University of Castilla-La Mancha (1998-2003), and aRamón y Cajal Research Fellow (2003-2008) at the University of Salamanca. He has been on the faculty at Salamanca since 2008, and invited research scientist at the University of Minnesota (2010) and Duke University (2014). He is a fellow of Institute of Advanced Studiesof Loughborough University (UK) and the University of Oldenburg (Germany).His current research interests include (1) understanding and modeling cochlear compression; (2) understanding the roles of olivocochlear efferents in hearing; (3) reinstating the effects and benefits of olivocochlear efferents to the users of hearing aids and cochlear implants; and (4) understanding the factors behind the wide variability in outcomes across hearing-aid and cochlear-implant users. He has been the principal investigator for 19scientific research projects, and a consultant in two projects funded by the National Institutes of Health. He has authored over 75 papers, one book and three patents on a variety of topics in hearing science.He is (or has been) editor of two books, a member of the editorial board of Trends in Hearing (since 2014), and an associate editor of Journal of the Acoustical Society of America (2012-2015). He is the recipient of the Medal of the Cross to the Naval Merit from the Spanish Navy, the Salamanca Ambassador award from Salamanca Convention Bureau, andthe Distinguished Alumnus award from the University of Salamanca Alumni. He was elected Fellow of the Acoustical Society of America (2009),of the International Collegium of Rehabilitative Audiology (2015)

Ingo R. Titze is a vocologist with formal education in physics (PhD), electrical engineering (MSEE), and music. He directs the National Center for Voice and Speech at the University of Utah, where he holds adjunct appointments in Surgery, Biomedical Engineering, and Music. He is a Fellow and Honoree of the American Speech Language Association, a Silver Medalist of the Acoustical Society of America, and served as the first elected President of the Pan American Vocology Association. He has authored four books, edited three books, and published over 400 journal articles. Dr. Titze continues to be an active singer.

Simulation of the physics and physiology of voice production: a 50 year history

Noureddine Atalla is a professor of Mechanical Engineering at Université de Sherbrooke, director of GAUS (Group d’Acoustique et de vibration de l’Université de Sherbrooke: and President of Mecanum Inc. ( . His core expertise is in computational vibro-acoustics and acoustic materials. He has published more than 130 refereed papers in acoustics and vibration, spanning different domains, including modeling poroelastic and viscoelastic materials, coupled fluid-structure problems, the acoustic and dynamic response of sandwich and composite structures, and computational vibro-acoustics. He is also the co-author of a book on the modeling of sound porous materials and another one on finite and boundary elements in structural acoustics and vibrations.


Modeling and characterization of structured acoustic materials

Prof. Tapio Lokki was born in Helsinki, Finland, in 1971. He has studied acoustics, audio signal processing, and computer science at the Helsinki University of Technology (TKK) and received an M.Sc. degree in electrical engineering in 1997 and a D.Sc.(Tech.) degree in computer science and engineering in 2002. Then he continued at TKK as a lecturing researcher teaching virtual reality and making research on virtual auditory environments. At 2007 he was appointed as an Academy Research Fellow, which is highly competed independent research position in Finland, for a period of five years. At present Dr. Lokki is an Associate Professor (tenured) with the Department of Signal Processing and Acoustics at Aalto University, where he leads the virtual acoustics team. The passion of Prof. Lokki is to understand how rooms modify sound that we hear. To pursue the encompassing understanding of room acoustics, his team is investigating auralization, spatial sound reproduction, binaural technology, and novel objective and subjective evaluation methods, as well as physically-based room acoustics modeling methods. Particularly, the interest has been in concert halls, in which the team has developed new measurement techniques, analysis methods for spatial impulse responses, and sensory evaluation methods to understand the perceptual differences between concert halls. Furthermore, Prof. Lokki has been continuing a long-term research on augmented reality audio and novel hearing protection devices. Recent novel research areas of the virtual acoustics team are hearing in noisy and reverberant spaces as well as bio-based absorption materials. Prof. Lokki has published over 70 journal articles and over 150 conference papers. He has been awarded by the International Commission of Acoustics (ICA Early Career Award 2013), the Audio Engineering Society (Fellow 2017), the Academy of Finland Award on social impact (2011). Prof. Lokki is a member of the Acoustical Society of America, a fellow of the Audio Engineering Society, and a honorary member of the Acoustical Society of Finland.
